Three knocks can change everything…
"She knew. That’s why Mom hadn’t opened the door. She knew he was dead."
Twenty years as an army brat and Ember Howard knew, too. The soldiers at the door meant her dad was never coming home. What she didn’t know was how she would find the strength to singlehandedly care for her crumbling family when her mom falls apart.
Then Josh Walker enters her life. Hockey star, her new next-door neighbor, and not to mention the most delicious hands that insist on saving her over and over again. He has a way of erasing the pain with a single look, a single touch. As much as she wants to turn off her feelings and endure the heartache on her own, she can’t deny their intense attraction.
Until Josh’s secret shatters their world. And Ember must decide if he’s worth the risk that comes with loving a man who could strip her bare.
Full Measures (Flight & Glory, #1) Reviews
Rebecca Yarros is one of those authors I’ve been meaning to read for the longest time, but never had. I’m so glad I picked up the audio book of Full Measures and finally gave her a try. I enjoyed this book lots and will definitely be reading more books in this series!
Three knocks can change everything…
December Howard’s life completely changed with just 3 knocks on her door. Ember has spent her life as an army brat, but now her world is torn apart. Her dad left to serve his country, and he’s not coming home. Ember has the weight of the world on her shoulders. She becomes the strength her family needs. She helps her younger brother and sister when her mom can’t function. She tries to keep her family together. But it’s hard.
Josh Walker is a few years older than Ember. She had a high school crush, but hasn’t seen him in years. He coaches her younger brother’s hockey team and shows back up in her life. This time, he notices her. He knows she needs someone. He’ll be whatever she needs.
“I’m your whatever.”
The soft kiss he’d placed on my lips had me leaning in for more. “Whatever you need me to be,” he whispered against my mouth.”
Josh is truly the best. He’s so great for Ember. But Josh has a secret he’s keeping. It’s one he knows could destroy everything between them…
I loved Josh and Ember’s story. There were times I was a little stressed about what was going on between them, and a little frustrated with Ember- but seeing all she’d been through I understood her. I completely adored Josh though. He was fantastic. When you start this book, make sure you have a few tissues handy. The first few chapters had me in tears. It’s an emotional read, but it’s also sweet, sexy and has moments that will put a smile on your face! I can’t wait to read more of these books. Especially Jagger's story!
FABULOUS!!!! I loved this...the angst, the passion, the love story! Total unexpected love fest going on right now with me and this author!!!!
December Howard has lived a life as a military brat. She has a fabulous family, a perfect boyfriend, and a seemingly stepford planned future.
Everything changes with three knocks on her door. When news of her father's death in Afghanistan hits the Howard family, devastation and loss ensue. Someone must standup, be strong, and carry on this family...only Ember is capable.
Losing her father, losing her philandering boyfriend, watching her catatonic mother, and chasing her out of control sister is wearing on Ember. She is working to re-establish her life and come to grips with what the future holds.
Josh Howard...SWOON...This local college boy, one time hockey bad boy womanizer, now youth hockey coach seems to be everywhere when she needs someone to pick her up...Josh Walker has become Ember's "whatever."
This man is patient, clever, witty, caring, and ridiculously supportive. His only flaw is literally "hidden in the closet," and it is a truth that when Ember discovers will truly rip her out of his life.
This read is heart-wrenching and I shed tears on multiple occasions. The sense of loss in this read is so palpable and so emotionally charged. This accompanied with the developing love story was quite an emotional roller coaster. I loved the connection between Josh and Ember and I loved how they developed slowly. There was so much intensity yet it was so appropriately written with the perfect amount of desire, compassion, and respect. Josh Howard is a top notch book boyfriend all around.
If Josh Howard would have given me the "I have never said I love you to a girl" speech and told me "we are worth the fight," I do not think I would have been able to say goodbye ever!!!
This author wrote a truly good book with great likeable characters and a riveting journey. I appreciated the well-developed story and quality in which it was written. I mostly appreciated a real conclusion and no cliffhanger. In the end of this read I am a true believer in the concept of happy ever after and that true love can conquer all!!!
★★★★ 4 stars!
Full Measures was a sweet, fun, emotional NA story that I really enjoyed reading. It took be by surprise since I wasn't expecting it to bring out so many emotions while reading it and the "army" subject definitely made it stand out from many other typical new adult romance novels.
Three knocks can change everything...
Especially for December "Ember" Howard. When the soldiers at her home come knocking on their door she knows they're not their to deliver good news. Her father is never coming home again. Ember knows that from that point onward her life will never be the same. With all the courage left in her she needs to pick up the pieces and be there for the rest of her family to lean on.
Still, it's not easy to handle the responsibilities of taking care of her siblings, her unresponsive mom, her classes and to top it all she finds out [spoilers removed]. Josh Walker is the least likely person for her to pull her out of her misery (especially since she's had a crush on him since her junior year in high school and he was the senior hockey player star) but he turns out to be exactly what she needs. And he's willing to chase her until she gives them a chance.
"We're taking it slow until you say so, because I can't bear to hear a 'no' from you. But here's your only warning: I'm going to chase the fuck out of you."
"We're unbelievable together. I've never felt that before. You stripped my soul clean."
Josh was just the sweetest! The way he was there for Ember on the moments she most needed it without ever coming on too strong. In his past he might have been a typical hockey player/man-whore but Ember made him change his ways. She makes him want more and she's the only one who ever got through his good-looking exterior to the guy with a soft heart inside.
But then, Josh's secret gets exposed and well, I have to say I wasn't very surprised by what this secret was. I pretty much figured it out halfway through the story. But this secret has a huge impact on Ember's already fragile state and after she finds it out, she has to figure out for herself whether she's strong enough to handle a revelation like that...
Overall, this was a very well written, captivating and original story. This was not your average NA romance although it did have a lot of typical college-drama elements. Still, the story had a powerful message and it definitely made an impact on me. Highly recommend!

I spent the last 20ish% in sobbing bits. I felt every part of this beautiful, heart moving story.
I never expected so much from this book.
Full Measures is one big melting pot of angst, heart and bliss. It made me cry and smile and swoon. It was so much more than I ever expected and reminded my of why I love NA stories. Let me share the lovely feelings...
It's about devastating loss.... Surviving. Living for yourself and letting the people you love follow their plans, their dreams. Finding your true love and not letting go. Being true to yourself.
There's an array of wonderful characters, the good and the bad, and I hope to meet some of them again in future books.
“There was something about you….”
Ember is a 20 year old army daughter living the perfect life with her perfect boyfriend. A life where her future is mapped out and planned, as we know, things are not always what they seem. One day 3 knocks make her world fall apart..... And readers that's only the beginning.... The more the book unfolded, the more I was drawn in emotionally, to the story and the characters.
“Josh had been forbidden, untouchable, and a little dangerous.”
Josh is a few years older than Ember, he's a gorgeous Hockey star and someone Ember used to swoon and lust over from afar. He. Is. Delicious.
The things he said to her made me want to melt, what a sweetheart. He made me swoon and then swoon again *sigh*
He's the type of book character that makes my heart beat faster. I could feel his presence on the page; charisma oozed out of him.
There's an undeniable sizzling attraction between our hero and heroine and it develops wonderfully throughout the story. It has the scorch factor. They have some incredibly sexy times together….
Is Ember ready to be with someone?
The story goes deeper than I imagined. Just when I thought the story was complete and, what could possibly happen now? The story took a turn I hadn’t anticipated and caused the characters and myself immeasurable angst. It tore at my heart. I completely felt and believed in all their motivation. Full Measures is so beautiful.
I felt her utter devastation.
I felt my way through the angst of the story. The powerful descriptions and subtle nuances, were just beautiful and moving. The emotions were palpable. The author wrote in such a way that I was completely in the head of the heroine and feeling it, it was perfect. The author wrote from deep within herself, drawing on her own emotions and possibilities, that's why it translates so authentically to the page. I was mesmerized throughout the book. Tears came to me at the beginning and I sobbed at the end, it took my breath away. Any story that moves me in this way has to be a 5 star read. Stunning and seriously sexy…. Wowza…. I felt it deep down in my heart.... Just lovely….
“…the beauty of what we were together.”
So many beautiful lines.
An amazing, emotional, superbly written stand alone story, I absolutely adored it and believe this is a new author to watch. If you read with your heart, you'll surely LOVE this book too. Enjoy xx

What an amazing story! It was so beautiful. I simply loved and admired every page, every sentence and every word. And I am still swooning over it. I have fallen in love with this epic love story that was not only idyllically romantic but so sexy and breathlessly intense. Rebecca Yarros totally nailed it!
“The fire you have within you is impossible to kill. The first breath you take when you’re free of all this, it will come roaring back. That’s what is so impossibly beautiful about you.”
From the start to the end I felt connected to the story and characters. I felt their pain, their hurt and wished them the best. I’ve been crossing my fingers that all of them will find happiness and to stop hurting so much. And while I’ve been following Josh and Ember journey which was incredibly hot, sexy and so freakin’ sweet, I couldn’t stop feeling everything they did. It was so easy to relate to them and love them. Yarros made it simple to admire them and she completely bewitched me with this story!
“Just let me love you, December, because I can’t stop anyways. I’ve been at your mercy since I was eighteen.”
I have no idea how many times I was on the verge of the tears, or how many times I was melting into a puddle of goo. Full Measures was a perfect read about devastating loss and trying to live without someone important. It was a story about surviving, a story full of bliss and angst and love!
It was touching and extremely moving.I couldn’t hope for more.
